The ‘Southern Home’ Muscadine is a unique hybrid cross between bunch and muscadine grapes. As with other grape vines, Southern Home produces deliciously sweet deep purple-black fruits held in large tight clusters much like bunch grapes. But the fine attributes don’t stop there. Due to its very attractive, beautifully and deeply-cut maple-like leaves that can’t be overlooked in the garden it has high ornamental value for use in the landscape. If you are looking for an exceptionally attractive vine to grow over a pergola or other overhead structure it doesn’t get much better than the Southern Home Muscadine. The fruits have 18% sugar, ripen from September through October, and make an excellent red wine.
